Scottish Union Learning Week 2024

This year, our learning conference will be a series of webinars delivered over the week beginning June 3rd. We are delighted to have Alzheimer’s Scotland Inverness, Digital Skills Education and Samaritans Scotland West Highlands and Skye Project on board to deliver a varied programme of sessions which reflect important issues which are relevant to us all.
As ever, the focus of the programme is skills and development and each of the three sessions offers information on resources for future learning as well as encouraging ideas for progression and growth at work and beyond.

Monday, June 3rd, Dementia Friends, 1-2pm
Join us for this informal and participatory session which considers 5 key messages about dementia
- Dementia is not a natural part of ageing
- Dementia is caused by brain diseases
- Dementia is not just about losing your memory
- It is possible to live well with dementia
- There is more to the person than the dementia.
Focussing on increasing knowledge and reducing stigma, there will also time for discussion and to explore training support in your local area. The session is delivered by Julie Ferguson who works for Alzheimer’s Scotland in Inverness
Wednesday June 5th, Artificial Intelligence (AI) - A Practical Introduction, 1-2pm
AI continues to be a key concern for workers and workplaces. Join us for a ground level overview that everyone can understand. Some of the things we will look at include;
- What is A.I?
- How do we use A.I. to improve efficiency in public sector workplaces?
- What are the most useful and popular A.I. tools?
- How can we learn more?
The session will be delivered by Digital Skills Education Ltd
Friday June 7th, Samaritans Scotland West Highlands and Skye Project, 1-2pm
This session is part of the Project’s webinar series which is available across West Highlands. In the session we will cover some important topics including
- What is emotional health?
- Recognising when you might not be OK.
- Tips to support your own, and others emotional health.
- Samaritans: there for everyone - contacting us and how we can support you
